Well we're back on the road, we left Langley at 10AM Wednesday morning. Our first debacle didn't take long; the USA border crossing!! I knew it was going to be slow as I noticed our line was taking twice as long as the others. Sure enough we got "randomly picked" for a search. After indicating all we had on board, they went out to the 5th wheel and took out our citrus fruits; lime, lemons and peppers, and kiwi (it was from New Zealand, not the US) and an hour later we were through the border and on our way to Fort Stevens State park in Astoria Oregon. When we left I couldn't get the inverter working (again), we stopped at a rest stop and just couldn't figure out now what was wrong. This time the gfi plug wasn't even working! arghh!. When we got to Fort Stevens I did some more checking; I forgot now to actually turn the ON switch! DUH! I don't think anything else could go wrong now, our fridge was now going to work ALL the time on the road :). We had a little rain but cleared up when we arrived. We checked in without paying (the staff are there only from 9-11 in the morning) so we found a good spot. the next morning I went to the desk to pay for 2 nights and sure enough since we hadn't reserved ahead our spot was booked for the second night! oh well we found another and since we had gotten so good at packing up we were over to our next site and set up in minutes. On Thursday we drove over the bridge back into Washington...we explored the southwestern peninsula, the towns of Ilwaco, Long Beach and up to Oysterville. We enjoyed walking on the beach and listening to the surf, we appreciate these things so much these days. We then decided to get some fresh seafood at a recommended place in Long Beach (thanks Trip Advisor) delicious!! Caroline ordered the seafood platter, included fresh crab legs and I had 3 different types of prawns in a sauce. Thursday morning we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and headed south down the scenic route (hwy 101) to Cannon Beach and then east towards Portland. A very nice 2 lane road, BUT when we got closer to I-5? gridlock for a couple miles. Seems there was an accident heading South, we were headed North and then East on I-84; this will be our main highway South/east. We got into a private RV cam, Shady River RV park, located right on the river, and then explored the Columbia Gorge area along historic route #30. Reminded us a lot of the road to Hana in Maui, very tight turns and narrow roads at times. Got some nice pics of views and waterfalls along the way, including the famous Multnomah Falls... so famous in fact we couldn't find a parking spot so Caroline ran out to take a few pictures. We could also see many wind surfers on the Columbia River, a very popular area as the winds are always high here. signing off as I start up the barby........:)
